Mr. Macaluso is chairman and CEO of Global Access CSG, a global merchant banking, private equity and advisory services firm. For more than two decades he has managed and successfully completed many billions of dollars in cross-border, in country, transactions, projects, investments and ventures in many parts of the world, including in the U.S., Greater China, Asia-Pacific generally, parts of the Middle East and Europe. Previously, as a practice leader and partner with global law firms, he pioneered the business model at the heart of Global Access morphing his practice into an increasingly business advisory platform that served the growing demand of global business, for companies like GMAC, Cargill, HSBC and leading medical and healthcare institutions among others, and also a growing number of private equity oriented firms making foreign direct investments, acquisitions and joint ventures. For more than a decade, Mr. Macaluso was a senior member of the global treasury team of a $120 billion company with activities across three continents. During the financial crisis, he led teams restructuring or working out over $150 billion of liquidity for some of the world’s leading institutions. SHARON EPHRAIM, MANAGING DIRECTOR AND CHIEF COMPLIANCE OFFICER, CHICAGO
Sharon Ephraim joined Global Access CSG in January 2018 as a Managing Director and its Chief Compliance Officer. Most recently, Ms. Ephraim served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer for Svoboda Capital Partners, a Chicago-based private equity firm, where she implemented its initial registered investment advisor compliance program. For the almost 10 years prior, she held positions as a Principal at Ares Management, a publicly-traded global asset management firm, and as Treasurer and Senior Director at Wrightwood Capital, LLC, a privately-held predecessor company of Ares in the commercial real estate specialty finance space. Prior to Ares, Ms. Ephraim served as Treasurer and Assistant Vice President for Wheels, Inc., a privately-held fleet leasing firm. She was also a banker at Bank of America (f/k/a Continental Bank) where she held various positions in the Securitized Products Group and the leasing and finance company lending division. Ms. Ephraim received her BA in economics from Connecticut College and her MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Hugh Lefranc, Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer, Minneapolis
Mr. Lefranc is an effective builder of bridges between Business, Technology Leadership, and External Partners, aiming at making businesses more agile, embracing innovative and disruptive technologies, new deployment models, and able to accelerate speed to market, from Startups to Fortune 25 companies. He has over 20 years experience and worked on corporate programs to $200M in size and with teams in international locations. He worked previously for two of the Big-Four System Integrators and received several customer service awards and unsolicited thank you letters from clients. He has worked on corporate turnarounds, M&A due diligence, integrations and divestitures, in capital markets, institutional brokerage, asset securitization, banking, supply chain logistics, insurance, reinsurance and healthcare. Mr. Lefranc was previously an Executive Global Architect with Aon Corporation and served as Chief Architect of Optum Insight, where he and his team supported the commercialization of over 300 software products. He also worked as a Principal Architect on several of Optum’s Big Bets, driving funding optimization, engineering for reuse, operational efficiencies, decisioning for core vs. non-core, productizing solutions & accelerating speed to market. His approach to Architecture and Technology is by design very operationally-focused. Mr. Lefranc received his MS in Economics from the European School of Management in Strasbourg, and his MBA in Finance from HEC Paris. He is fluent in French and German and currently learning Spanish. He is mindful of cultural differences and has coached American Executives on how to conduct business more effectively abroad.
Andrew shuster, managing director and Head of Debt Capital Markets, new york
Mr. Shuster spent 23 years with the investment banking division of Barclays Bank PLC, the UK-based global universal bank. The last nine years of his tenure at Barclays were in the UK, with a Western European remit. During this period, he headed up Barclays EMEA Securitized Finance business. Most recently, Mr. Shuster managed a multi-billion-dollar portfolio of diversified securitized financings for Barclays. Prior to his UK assignment, he spent 14 years in Barclays NY office, where he was a senior member of the firm’s US Investment Banking team. Before his career at Barclays, Mr. Shuster was a consultant to Citicorp Venture Capital, Ltd.’s leveraged investment team, as well as holding positions in counter-party credit risk with Drexel Burnham Lambert and Bear Stearns. Andrew has extensive experience working with multi-national corporate entities (both investment grade and leveraged companies), captive-finance subsidiaries of large corporates, global financial institutions, financial sponsor firms, and specialty finance firms. He has worked with both early stage entities and mature companies. Geographically, Mr. Shuster has worked in the US, the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Scandinavia and Australia. Dr. Scott Flaata, Managing Director and Chief Medical Officer, minneapolis
Dr. Scott Flaata is an internal medicine physician practicing in Minneapolis, MN. He is board certified and a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (2001, 2011). He has held a number of physician leadership positions for a large multi-specialty group in Minneapolis, MN, including physician leadership for ambulatory medicine and also as a senior physician serving in an executive advisory capacity for a large quaternary hospital in Minneapolis, MN. In 2016 Dr. Flaata served as the first Innovation Fellow within the multi-specialty group missioned to advance whole person healthcare. He focuses on advancing healthcare delivery engaging with patients, identifying and prototyping whole person care initiatives, and identifying elements of healthcare delivery that matter most for patients and those that provide care and support for patients. Mr. Lada joined Global Access to develop and manage the Global Access Capital Fund LP. Previously Mr. Lada was the CFO at Novus Healthcare, Inc. Prior to joining Novus in 2014, he served as the Managing Director of Wayzata Capital Management, Inc., a U.S. based money management conglomerate. During his time spent with Wayzata Capital, from 1998 till 2013, he managed all the main asset classes and a diverse range of financial ventures, with direct responsibility for planning, implementing, and managing all financial-related activities of the group. He served, from 2006 until 2014, as Director of ECF Ltd., a hedge fund based in Geneva, Switzerland. He frequently traveled to Europe to support business growth and build relationships. His prior work experience includes investment research with Dain Rauscher, Inc. and sales, marketing and asset management with G.D.N. Securities, Ltd. Robert has more than 20 years of extensive experience in finance, strategic planning, investment banking, and overall Global capital markets. Michael Shen, Senior Advisor, Hong Kong
Michael Koping Shen, an accomplished business leader and private investor, joined Global Access as an Advisor to our Hong Kong office. Previously, Mr. Shen served as Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer of China Taiping Insurance Holdings Company Limited (“China Taiping”), a company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. He was also a member of the Board of Supervisors of China Taiping’s life insurance operations, and held senior management positions at China Taiping’s asset management operations in Hong Kong and Shanghai. Mr. Shen spearheaded China Taiping’s first-ever initiatives in venture capital and private equity, and was part of the core team in sourcing investment opportunities, conducting due diligence and financial/valuation analyses, and making final decisions on all investments/divestments. Investments included Baidu, Inc., AutoNavi Software Co., Ltd., and MicroPort Scientific Corporation, all of which are now publicly listed companies. Prior to joining China Taiping, Mr. Shen was an Executive Director in the Financial Institutions Group of the Investment Banking Division at Goldman Sachs (Asia) L.L.C. (“Goldman Sachs”), where he was responsible for financial institutions in the Asia (ex-Japan) region. During his seven years at Goldman Sachs in New York and Hong Kong, Mr. Shen developed in-depth knowledge in advising insurance and asset management companies on strategic, financing and operational matters. Since 2009, he has been CEO of joint venture Woori CBV Securities, an investment bank of Global Fortune 500 Company Woori Financial Group (NYSE: WF). In 2013, he was selected as an Andrew Carnegie New Leader by The Carnegie Council on Ethics in International Affairs. Dr. Vu was the lead advisor in restructuring Vietnam’s largest coffee maker. With his assistance, the company has grown from a middle market sized entity to the number one coffee maker in Vietnam with total revenue of US$1.6 billion. Peter Bartling, Managing Director, Minneapolis
Mr. Bartling is an experienced executive with an outstanding track record in generating revenue and profitability. Currently, he is also the COO of TechVelocity Partners LLC, where he oversees all operations in IT product engineering, IT infrastructure, big data analysis, quality assurance testing, and agile consulting and training. In addition, Mr. Bartling has corporate experience in the hospitality and manufacturing industry where he was Director of Operations at Perkins Cake & Steak, Inc and the CEO of Contract Manufacturing Services/Energy & Environmental Engineering Inc and also Soups Galore and a Whole Lot More. Following his work in the manufacturing and hospitality sectors, Mr. Bartling entered the healthcare sector and became CEO of Co-Med Corporation, a subsidiary of the venture capital company Med Venture, where he was recruited to join the Board of Directors. While at Co-Med Corporation, he opened the first state-of- the-art diagnostic imaging clinic in St. Paul and completed a merger with an east coast medical firm. Following his time at Co-Med, Mr. Bartling became the CEO of Consulting Radiologists, Ltd, where he expanded both gross revenues and gross operating profits. Further experience in the healthcare sector includes his time at Minnesota Oncology Hematology (2002-2008) where he acted as CEO and was appointed to the Chief Executive Officer’s Council for all of US Oncology. John Li, Senior Advisor, Hong Kong
John Li, is an Advisor to Global Access in our Hong Kong office. Previously, Mr. Li was the Assistant General Manager and Investment Director at Anbang Asset Management (Hong Kong) Co. Ltd. which is the offshore investment and asset management company of Anbang Insurance Group of China. He was responsible for foreign investments and acquisitions in financial sectors such as banks and insurance companies, as well as in the real estate, energy and consumer sectors which included, for example, Anbang’s acquisition of the Waldorf Astoria in New York. Prior to Anbang. Mr. Li spent more than a decade in investment banking for Deutsche Bank, Merrill Lynch and Goldman Sachs in New York and Hong Kong. Mr. Li graduated from the University of Toronto with a BS in Computer Engineering.
